In a significant development, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is set to enhance its Open Market Sale (OMS) program by procuring 11 million litres of edible oil and 10,000 tons of lentils. The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP), chaired by Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, gave the green light to two separate proposals during a Thursday meeting.
The Ministry of Commerce presented the proposals on behalf of TCB, outlining a strategic plan to address market demands for essential commodities.
As per the approved proposals, TCB will execute an open tender to import 11 million litres of soybean oil from City Edible Oil Ltd. The total procurement cost stands at Tk174.66 crore, with each litre priced at Tk165.25.
Simultaneously, TCB will acquire 8,000 tons of lentils from Nabi Naba Food Limited, amounting to Tk83.12 crore, with each kilogram priced at Tk103.09.
This move is anticipated to stabilize the market by ensuring a steady supply of key food items at reasonable prices. TCB’s proactive measures align with the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of consumers and maintaining market equilibrium.
