In a somber turn of events, the aftermath of the massive fire that engulfed Bailey Road in Dhaka continues to unfold. The latest update reveals that another victim, identified as 30-year-old Jewel, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday morning, raising the death toll to 45.
Jewel breathed his last around 7 am at the intensive care unit (ICU) of DMCH, marking yet another tragic loss in the wake of the multistorey commercial building blaze housing several restaurants.
As the investigation progresses, the bodies of 39 victims have been identified, with at least 31 bodies handed over to grieving families without undergoing autopsy procedures. However, the identities of six bodies remain unknown, and authorities plan to conduct DNA tests before handing them over to their respective families.
Dhaka District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer, Abdur Rahman, shared this information in front of DMCH on Friday morning, shedding light on the ongoing efforts to manage the aftermath of the tragedy.
Dhaka Additional Deputy Commissioner, AKM Hedayetul Islam, emphasized the collaborative efforts between DMCH authorities and local authorities in facilitating the respectful handover of the deceased. Furthermore, a noteworthy assistance of Tk25 thousand has been provided to the families of the deceased who may be facing financial challenges during this difficult time.
