The Director General of Health Services (DGHS) has enforced the closure of two private hospitals in Dhaka, citing irregularities as the primary reason.
The affected healthcare facilities are Hicare Cardiac and Neuro Hospital located in Uttara, and Care Hospital and Diagnostic situated on Mohammadpur’s Iqbal road. Additionally, the diagnostic lab of Dhaka Trauma Centre and Specialized Hospital in the Shyamoli area has been ordered to cease operations.
Confirmation of these closures came from DGHS Director (hospital and clinic) Dr Abu Hossain Mainul Ahsan through a press release issued on Wednesday.
In accordance with the health minister’s directive, DGHS is conducting thorough inspections of health institutions to promptly shut down unlicensed, illegal private hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centers, and blood banks.
The second day of the inspection drive witnessed DGHS officials conducting raids on 10 healthcare facilities in the capital.
Amidst the inspections, Hi-care Orthopaedics and General Hospital in Shyamoli received a directive to provide an explanation for various irregularities.
Islam Diagnostic Center in the same area was issued a warning related to improper maintenance of colour-coded bins.
On the inaugural day of the inspection drive, which covered 37 hospitals and diagnostic centers nationwide, the health directorate took proactive measures to assess and address compliance issues.
