Mark your calendars for the upcoming Jatka Conservation Week-2024, scheduled to take place from March 11 to 17. The dedicated week aims to foster widespread awareness about the crucial preservation of ilish fry, playing a vital role in enhancing its production.
Under the slogan “Ilish holo machher raja, Jatka dhorle hobe saja,” Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md Abdur Rahman is slated to inaugurate the ‘Jatka Conservation Week 2024’ at Chandpur Sadar Upazila on March 11.
The decision was reached during a meeting of the National Task Force on Hilsa (Ilish) Resource Development at the Department of Fisheries in the capital on Wednesday. Minister Md Abdur Rahman chaired the meeting, joined by Secretary of the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Md Selim Uddin, Director General of the Department of Fisheries Syed Md Alamgir, Director General of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, Dr Md Zulfikar Ali, and representatives from law-enforcing agencies.
The minister emphasized that, following the tradition of previous years, the Jatka Conservation Week would unfold through diverse programs at both district and upazila levels.
Scheduled activities include the screening of videos and documentaries on Jatka conservation, radio and television discussions, ilish workshops, meetings, seminars, mobile courts, and advocacy campaigns for Jatka protection.
Since 2007, Jatka Conservation Week has been an annual event dedicated to fostering mass awareness regarding the preservation of ilish fry. Be part of this impactful initiative to contribute to the conservation of Bangladesh’s precious ilish resource.
