In an unfortunate incident on Wednesday morning, a construction crane, part of the food storage silo project in Daulatpur’s Maheswarpasha CSD (food warehouse) in Khulna, collapsed onto a nearby house.
Fortunately, no individuals were inside the room at the time of the incident, averting any injuries. However, the loud noise generated by the crane’s collapse resulted in three people falling ill.
Abdus Salam, Regional Food Controller, stated that the accident occurred early in the morning when the crane malfunctioned, possibly due to loosened nuts and bolts. The crane collapsed and landed on a house, but with no one in the room, no injuries were reported. The situation is currently being closely observed.
Imran Hossain, an engineer from Max Group, the contractor overseeing the silo construction, explained, “The crane accident resulted from vibrations during the construction work. Fortunately, the collapsed crane did not cause harm to anyone in the nearby abandoned houses. However, the loud noise led to panic and illness in three individuals. Two of them have recovered after receiving first aid, while one person named Sarjit Kumar has been admitted to the hospital.”
The incident highlights the challenges faced during construction projects and underscores the importance of ensuring the safety of both workers and the surrounding community. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crane malfunction to prevent similar incidents in the future.
