In a significant milestone, the government’s dedicated efforts have successfully contributed 18 million cubic feet of gas per day from Rashidpur Gas Field to the national grid, elevating the total production to 66 million cubic feet. State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid, inaugurated the gas supply from Well-2 and Well-9 in Habiganj, emphasizing the positive impact on the nation’s energy sector.
Speaking at the inauguration, Nasrul Hamid highlighted the successful resumption of gas extraction from Well-2 after a prolonged hiatus. He noted the rarity of obtaining eight million cubic feet of gas through well work-over, showcasing the efficiency of the operation. Additionally, the inclusion of Well-9, previously untapped due to pipeline limitations, further contributes to the increased gas production.
Accompanied by Petrobangla Chairman Janendra Nath Sarkar, Sylhet Gas Field Company’s Managing Director Mizanur Rahman, and other officials, Nasrul Hamid commended the completion of the 17-km pipeline project, which addressed the challenges posed by the existing infrastructure.
Rashidpur Gas Field, discovered in 1960 with a reserve of 1060 billion cubic feet, now considers probable gas at 1373 BCF, with an additional 680 BCF under consideration. Petrobangla reports that out of the 11 wells in Rashidpur Gas Field, gas is available in nine wells, contributing to the current extraction of 66.3 million cubic feet of gas from seven wells.
In a separate event, State Minister Nasrul Hamid inaugurated the Mashud Ali Model Petrol Pump on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, highlighting the government’s initiative to establish model petrol pumps nationwide. He encouraged existing petrol pump owners to embrace the initiative without immediate shutdown, fostering a positive transition in the industry.
The state minister’s three-day official visit to the Sylhet region includes inspections of drilling wells, process plants, and other crucial energy infrastructure. The visit demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing energy efficiency and infrastructure development for sustainable growth.
