In a significant move, Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam have unveiled a plan to allocate Tk20 crore to each lawmaker for executing essential development projects within their constituencies.
Minister Tajul Islam made this announcement in response to a query raised by Jatiya Party MP Mujibul Haque Chunnu during the parliamentary session on Sunday.
MP Chunnu sought clarification on whether the government had plans to provide financial support to MPs to fulfill the commitments made to their voters before the election.
Minister Islam emphasized that making promises to voters is a standard practice for politicians, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken note of this. As a result, a scheme has been initiated, ensuring each MP receives Tk20 crore over a five-year period to implement development projects in their respective areas.
The minister also indicated that additional plans are being considered to support MPs in enhancing the development of their constituencies and honoring their electoral pledges. This financial allocation aims to empower lawmakers to contribute significantly to the progress and well-being of their regions.
