In a significant stride towards enhancing operational efficiency, Mongla port has welcomed the addition of two cutting-edge vessels, namely “MT Neelkamal” and “MT Joymoney.” Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman, Chairman of the Port Authority, officially inaugurated these modern tugboats at a ceremony held at 2 pm on Thursday.
Built by Hong Kong’s Cheoy Lee Shipyard, these vessels docked at Jetty No. 8 of the port on Wednesday afternoon, showcasing their advanced capabilities. The tugboats boast a remarkable maximum capacity of 70 bollard pull power, signifying a substantial upgrade from the previous maximum capacity of 40 bollards in Mongla port.
The acquisition of these two tugboats, at a cost of Tk174 crore, marks a strategic investment aimed at bolstering the port’s capacity for efficiently maneuvering large commercial ships. Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman expressed optimism about the positive impact of the vessels on the port’s overall ship-handling capabilities.
“With the addition of 70 bollard tugboats, it will be possible to move large commercial ships arriving at Mongla port quickly and safely to the port jetty. With this, a new horizon has started in the capacity of Mongla port in overall ship handling,” stated Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman.
This development is poised to elevate Mongla port’s standing in the maritime industry, positioning it as a more capable and efficient hub for handling a diverse range of vessels. Stay tuned for further updates on the transformative impact of these modern vessels on Mongla port’s operations.
