Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel announced a groundbreaking initiative at a Thursday press conference, introducing a simplified evaluation process for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations. The minister aims to revolutionize the conventional evaluation system, shifting the focus from the Grade Point Average (GPA) to a more holistic assessment of students’ practical abilities essential for their professional life.
In his address, Nowfel stressed the importance of creating an evaluation framework that is easily understandable for parents, providing them with a clearer insight into their children’s skills and capabilities. The education ministry has been actively working towards integrating continuous assessment and other testing mechanisms into the curriculum, deviating from the traditional GPA-centric approach.
The new evaluation system, implemented since January at the lower secondary level and facilitated through the Naipunno app, aims to assess students’ conditions in February. This proactive approach allows the ministry to take timely actions to address any shortcomings in students’ skills, practical abilities, and knowledge.
While acknowledging the challenges faced by students during the exam period, Minister Nowfel assured the public that the ministry is actively inspecting SSC examination centers to ensure a smooth and fair examination process. He also addressed concerns about exam centers in the Bangladesh-Myanmar border area, assuring that the Chittagong education board would take necessary steps if any student is absent.
Amidst the commencement of the SSC and equivalent examinations for 2024, with a substantial number of students participating, Minister Nowfel dismissed rumors of question paper leakage. He urged parents to maintain their moral stance and emphasized the ministry’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and credible examination process for all students. Stay tuned for further updates on this innovative approach to SSC exams and its impact on students’ educational journey.
