Gennext Technologies Limited, a prominent player in the ICT sector, has officially launched the operations of Meghna Cloud, Bangladesh’s pioneering cloud data center located at Bangabandhu Hi-Tech City in Kaliakoir, Gazipur.
Meghna Cloud promises to revolutionize the country’s digital infrastructure by offering a comprehensive suite of cloud services, including servers, storage, networking equipment, and cutting-edge software technology. This landmark initiative enables the provision of services to both government and private entities while safeguarding the nation’s data within domestic borders.
The inauguration of Meghna Cloud marks a significant milestone in Bangladesh’s technological landscape and is anticipated to yield substantial savings in foreign currency spent annually on cloud technology procurement and usage.
Following a joint venture agreement with Bangladesh Data Centre Company Limited (BDCCL) on December 29, 2022, Gennext Technologies is responsible for the construction, operation, maintenance, and marketing of Meghna Cloud services to governmental and private sectors.
State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, lauded Meghna Cloud as a testament to the strategic partnership between the government and the private sector, emphasizing its role in bolstering data security and reducing foreign currency expenditure.
During a visit to the Meghna Cloud data center on February 8, 2024, Gennext Technologies Chairman Touhidul Islam Chaudhury and Managing Director Alavee Azfar Chaudhury provided insights into the center’s operations to State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak and ICT Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin.
Touhidul Islam Chaudhury highlighted Meghna Cloud’s contribution to advancing the Smart Bangladesh initiative and announced plans to establish a research and development center for students and educators from both government and private universities.
With a commitment to fostering national development, Gennext Technologies aims to invest approximately USD 500 million over the next five years in the Meghna Cloud project, underlining its dedication to collaborative efforts with the government.
Meghna Cloud’s establishment is poised to address critical challenges associated with foreign data storage dependency and data security concerns. By hosting data locally, Meghna Cloud aims to mitigate risks associated with foreign server usage while providing top-tier data security for government and non-government organizations.
The inauguration of Meghna Cloud aligns with the government’s efforts to enhance digital infrastructure and promote technological self-reliance. It complements the tier four National Data Centre established in 2019, further solidifying Bangladesh’s position as a leader in digital innovation and data sovereignty.
