Ongoing clashes in Myanmar trigger the relocation of an SSC exam center, causing disruptions in Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar border districts of Bangladesh.
Amidst intermittent gunshots from Myanmar, the authorities shifted the SSC examination center from Ghumdhum High School in Naikhongchari, Bandarban, to two government primary schools three kilometers away. The move addresses security risks posed by the conflict in Myanmar, offering a safer environment for 463 examinees.
In a related development, Cox’s Bazar senior judicial magistrate court granted a three-day remand for 22 out of 23 armed Rohingyas detained by locals on February 6. The Rohingyas were handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members after entering Bangladesh through Rahmater Beel border.
As the conflict between Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) and the insurgent Arakan Army escalates, black smoke was reported in the Kumirkhali border outpost area and Dhekibonia outpost on the other side of Ghumdhum border in Naikhongchari. BGB and Coast Guard members remained on high alert, patrolling the Naf river to prevent any attempts by Rohingyas to enter Bangladesh illegally.
Chattogram divisional commissioner Md Tofail Islam and Chattogram range police deputy inspector general (DIG) Nure Alam Mina visited the Ghumdhum border area, assuring ongoing investigations into the infiltration case. Locals suspect Myanmar BGP outposts may have been torched, but the situation remains uncertain.
The cancellation of Ghumdhum High School’s SSC examination center due to security concerns brings relief to students and guardians. The 463 examinees will now take their exams at No 1 Ghumdhum Uttar Government Primary School and No 2 Uttar Ghumdhum Government Primary School, located 1.5 kilometers away from the Myanmar border.
The decision to change the exam center aims to ensure the safety of students amidst the challenging circumstances prevailing in the border regions. Parents, like Manik Chakrabarty, express relief at the altered examination arrangements, providing a sense of security for their children during these uncertain times.
