The Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection initiates a thorough probe into the manufacturing of fake diabetes measuring strips linked to “Pharma Solutions.” These imitation strip packets, designed to resemble those of a reputable foreign multinational company, are believed to be produced by a company named “Print One” in the Naya Paltan area of the capital.
AHM Shafiquzzaman, the Director-General of the Directorate of National Consumers’ Right Protection, announced on Sunday that they are actively investigating to determine if any other organizations are involved in this incident. He also mentioned that they have sought information from the companies regarding the extent of the unauthorized distribution of these diabetes strips in Bangladesh.
According to Assistant Director Md Abdul Jabbar Mondol of the Directorate’s Dhaka office, a raid was conducted on February 6 at the head office of the company Pharma Solution. During the investigation, Pharma Solution claimed that the strips from the specific batch in question were not produced by their organization. Subsequently, it was discovered during a visit to the Kakrail branch of Lazz Pharma that the described batch of strips had been purchased by the company from Pharma Solutions.
Upon emailing the batch number of the fake diabetes strips to their purported manufacturer, Roche, a renowned German pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing company, it was revealed that no strips of that batch were produced by their organization.
During a hearing held at the Directorate on February 8, the accused company admitted to manufacturing these fake diabetes strips in collaboration with “Print One” in Naya Paltan. In response, a fine was imposed, and both companies were subsequently sealed off based on the information gathered. The ongoing investigation seeks to uncover the extent of the counterfeit operation and any potential involvement of other entities.
