Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal disclosed that the traffic departments of various metropolitan police across the country have amassed fines totaling Tk775.87 crore over the last 15 years. The home minister shared this information in a written response to a query from Awami League member Nurunnabi Chowdhury during the National Parliament session on Monday, chaired by Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Choudhury.
In response to the inquiry about the revenue generated through fines by different metropolitan police departments over the past 15 years, the home minister clarified that these departments have collected Tk775,87,24,807 through fines, depositing the funds into the government treasury.
Addressing another question from Member of Parliament Jahangir Alam, Home Minister Kamal highlighted the ongoing efforts to modernize and replace dilapidated police stations with more functional and contemporary offices. To enhance living facilities, a project for constructing administrative and barrack buildings in various Bangladesh police stations has been approved, and the Development Project Proposal (DPP) for this initiative has been submitted to the Planning Commission for approval.
