In the latest development, the consumer-level price of the 12kg liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder has seen a hike of Tk41, soaring to Tk1,474 from Tk1,433. The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has confirmed that the new price will be effective from Sunday evening, marking the seventh consecutive increase in LPG retail prices.
According to BERC’s recent announcement, the adjusted price of private LPG at retail points now stands at Tk122.83 per kg. Notably, the regulatory body had previously raised the 12kg cylinder price from Tk1,404 to Tk1,433 in January and from Tk1,381 to Tk1,404 in December.
This trend of fluctuating LPG prices has been a prominent feature in recent months. In October, consumers faced a substantial increase of Tk79 for a 12kg Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder, followed by hikes of Tk107.01 per kg in September and Tk141 in August. However, July witnessed a noteworthy reduction, with the cost dropping by Tk75 to its lowest point at Tk999.
The annual LPG consumption in Bangladesh hovers around 1.48 million tons, with households contributing approximately 84% to the total consumption. The market is predominantly controlled by 29 private companies, holding a significant 99% share. BERC, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Aramco contract prices of propane and butane, the primary components of LPG, determines the prices of private companies’ bottled LPG.
