Kim Kardashian is taking on a dual role as executive producer and featured star in an upcoming BBC docuseries dedicated to the iconic Elizabeth Taylor. The three-part documentary, tentatively titled “Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar,” is a Passion Pictures production, the Oscar-winning team behind “Searching for Sugar Man” and the recent Sundance success “Super/Man” focused on Christopher Reeve.
This comprehensive series, commissioned by the BBC, will delve deep into Elizabeth Taylor’s acting prowess, exploring how she not only captivated audiences but also reshaped the dynamic between stars and their admirers. The documentary will highlight Taylor’s groundbreaking impact on Hollywood, from shattering glass ceilings to evolving into a billion-dollar businesswoman, activist, and advocate. Fremantle will be handling the global distribution of the series.
Kim Kardashian, who conducted the final interview with Elizabeth Taylor before her passing, expressed admiration for Taylor’s authenticity, resilience, and role as a trailblazer. Kardashian stated, “Elizabeth Taylor was unapologetically herself, a fighter. She is proof that you can keep evolving and changing and have different chapters in your life – and she paved the way for all of us who came after her with that blueprint.”
The docuseries will feature interviews with notable figures such as Dame Joan Collins, Margaret O’Brien, Carole Bayer Sager, and leading scientist Dr. Anthony Fauci, who collaborated with Elizabeth Taylor in the fight against AIDS. Kardashian will serve as executive producer alongside Kari Lia and Hamish Fergusson.
Alistair Pegg, Commissioning Editor at the BBC, expressed excitement about the project, stating, “This exciting series promises a new understanding of Elizabeth Taylor – both her technique and power as an actor, and her capacity for reinventing herself.”
Hamish Fergusson, creative director and executive producer at Passion Pictures, highlighted Elizabeth Taylor’s lasting impact on stardom and celebrity, saying, “Elizabeth developed and defined our understanding of stardom and celebrity across decades. A unique talent and true luminary, we’re hugely excited to explore her extraordinary life and enduring legacy.”
