In a groundbreaking agricultural feat, 43-year-old farmer Md Amin Uddin has triumphantly cultivated two distinct varieties of cauliflower through his experimental endeavors. The vibrant results include a unique pink cauliflower named Valentena Pink and a striking yellow variety named Carotena Yellow, both successfully grown on his first attempt.
According to insights from the district agriculture office, Amin Uddin’s cauliflower innovations, Valentena Pink and Carotena Yellow, are making waves in the farming community. The agricultural maverick, based in Poltadanga village in Jessore Sadar, initially ventured into experimental broccoli cultivation four years ago, reaping substantial profits from a modest landholding.
Not limited to his own success, Amin Uddin has generously provided seeds and seedlings to neighboring farmers, fostering self-reliance in the community. A testament to his achievements, Amin’s cauliflower fields in Poltadanga village showcase a spectacular array of colorful cauliflowers, predominantly Valentena Pink, characterized by its captivating pink hue. Additionally, Carotena Yellow cauliflowers, in smaller sizes, are poised to hit the market soon.
Amin Uddin, primarily known for his vegetable seedling nursery at Abdulpur intersection along the Jessore-Chaugacha road, offers a variety of seedlings including eggplants, peppers, tomatoes, gourds, and coppice, all in high demand and fetching favorable prices.
Origin of the Cauliflower Varieties:
Amin Uddin shared that he procured Valentena Pink and Carotena Yellow cauliflower seeds from India in the middle of last year. Each packet, priced at Tk1,100, contained 500 seeds, of which he kept 2,000 Valentena and 400 Carotena seeds for himself, successfully producing seedlings. The remaining seeds were generously distributed among neighboring farmers.
Market Presence and Prices:
Amin Uddin has strategically priced each seedling of Valentena Pink and Carotena Yellow at Tk5. Valentena, weighing between 2-2.5kg, is currently sold at Tk40, while Carotena is not yet available commercially but is anticipated to hit the market soon. A recent observation noted Carotena being sold at Tk90 per kg, weighing 1,200kg, emphasizing its appeal and potential in the market.
Success in Expensive Vegetable Cultivation:
Amin Uddin’s approach to cultivating high-value vegetables on a small piece of land has proven to be a successful profit-making venture. His pursuit of innovative varieties has led him to explore markets in India, discovering unique fruits like sammam and experimenting with crops such as elongated cucumbers, squash, and capsicum.
