The Cox’s Bazar rail route faces suspension as a pilot engine collides with a stone-laden coach, causing disruptions in this new rail project.
Assistant Locomaster Jahirul Alam sustained injuries in the incident, which occurred around 5 pm on Monday in the Ramu-Islamabad area.
The collision has led to the suspension of rail services, affecting the Cox’s Bazar-bound Parjatak Express, which was unable to depart at its scheduled time of 8 pm. Passengers of the Dhaka-bound Intercity train faced delays, waiting at the station with the latest information suggesting a potential departure at 10 pm.
Jafar Alam, Chittagong Railway Station Master, reported the suspension of train operations on the Cox’s Bazar route due to the accident in the Ramu-Islamabad area. The timeline for the resumption of normal train services remains uncertain.
Saiful Islam, Deputy Manager of Chittagong Railway Division, explained that a pair of wheels from the stone-laden coach, belonging to Max Construction, derailed from the track. As a result, the Cox’s Bazar railway track remains closed, with ongoing rescue operations.
