In a swift response to safety concerns, a Saudi Arabia-bound flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines was forced to make an emergency landing at Shahjalal International Airport, just two hours after it took off on Saturday. The incident occurred when a crack was observed on the windshield of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
The Biman flight, carrying 285 passengers en route to Dammam, was airborne when Captain Tania Reza noticed the windshield issue. Promptly prioritizing passenger safety, Captain Reza made the decision to return to Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Biman’s General Manager of Public Relations, Tahera Khandaker, informed Prothom Alo on Sunday that the passengers were provided accommodation at a hotel overnight. Subsequently, another flight safely transported them to their intended destination at 11:00 am the following day.
The flight, which had 12 crew members in addition to the passengers, was over Indian airspace when the windshield crack was identified. This incident follows a similar occurrence in February 2022 when a Biman flight made an emergency landing in Malaysia due to a cracked windshield on a Boeing 737.
This latest emergency landing underscores the critical importance of vigilant safety measures in the aviation industry, ensuring the well-being of passengers and crew members alike.
