In a devastating road accident in the picturesque Keokradong area of Ruma Upazila, Bandarban district, two women lost their lives, and twelve tourists suffered injuries when a tourist jeep plunged into a deep gorge on Saturday morning.
The victims have been identified as Zainab, a 24-year-old Master’s student, and Firoza Begum, a 50-year-old resident of Dhaka.
Bandarban Deputy Commissioner, Shah Mojahid Uddin, shared that a group of 58 people from Dhaka had embarked on a journey to Bagalake in five jeeps on Friday morning. Tragically, while returning from Bagalake to Keokradong on Saturday, one of the jeeps lost control and met with a fatal accident in the Darjeeling area along the Bagalake-Keokradong route.
Out of the twelve injured, seven are female tourists, and three of them are currently in critical condition. The identities of the injured individuals are yet to be disclosed.
Prompt response from army personnel and the fire service led to the swift rescue of the injured, who received primary treatment at Ruma Upazila Health Complex. Ruma Upazila Medical Officer Tanmoy confirmed the unfortunate deaths of two individuals and stated that the critically injured have been transferred to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for advanced medical care.
