Fans of “Wizards of Waverly Place” have a reason to celebrate as the enchanting sibling duo, Alex and Justin Russo, are set to make a triumphant return in the pilot of the show’s highly-anticipated sequel, aptly titled “Wizards.”
Selena Gomez and David Henrie, the original actors behind Alex and Justin since the show’s debut in 2007, will not only be reprising their roles but will also serve as executive producers for the pilot, as confirmed by Disney Branded Television to CBS News.
Gomez is slated to make a guest appearance in the pilot, while Henrie will take on the role of Justin on a regular basis. The cast will also welcome new additions to Waverly Place, including Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos.
The magical sequel unfolds the narrative of Justin, who leaves his magical responsibilities at WizTech to lead a normal life with his family. However, his plans take a magical turn when a young, powerful wizard seeks his guidance, compelling Justin to reconnect with his magical past for the sake of the Wizard World’s future.
Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, the creative minds behind the reboot of “That’s So Raven,” are at the helm of writing the pilot episode.
Selena Gomez expressed her excitement on Instagram, sharing a throwback photo with Henrie and captioning it, “We’re back.” She also posted screenshots of Deadline’s report and an image of the “Wizards” pilot script, exclaiming, “Home again.”
Both Disney Channel and David Henrie teased the news on Instagram, generating anticipation among fans. In his caption, Henrie wrote, “The Russos are excited to become a part of your family, but we’ve grown. 2024, the year magic comes back.”
