In a groundbreaking move to combat environmental pollution, Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury announced the government’s utilization of a state-of-the-art brick kiln tracker. This advanced technology aims to identify illegal and polluting brick kilns, paving the way for swift and effective legal actions.
Minister Chowdhury made this significant announcement during the presentation of the brick kiln tracker at the Bangladesh Secretariat’s ministry meeting room on Thursday. The innovative tool, developed in collaboration between the Department of Environment and the National University of Singapore, relies on IT and remote sensing technology.
Highlighting the importance of this initiative, the minister stated that the brick kiln tracker would prioritize the identification of highly harmful brick kilns, facilitating the prompt cessation of illegal activities. The ultimate goal is to curb air pollution stemming from brick kilns, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.
Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury emphasized, “Monitoring and enforcement activities of the Department of Environment will be strengthened and successful with the help of this latest technology tracker with artificial intelligence.”
The brick kiln tracker is expected to enhance the Department of Environment’s monitoring and enforcement capabilities, making use of cutting-edge technology. Present at the meeting were Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Environment) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Director General of the Department of Environment Dr. Abdul Hamid, and Professor of the National University of Singapore Dr. Martin Mattsson, alongside other senior officials from the ministry and the Department of Environment. Stay tuned for updates on the implementation of this innovative solution in the fight against environmental pollution.
