Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) takes swift action by forming a five-member committee to probe the ferry capsize incident on the Daulatdia-Paturia route in the Padma River near Paturia, Manikganj. Kazi Wasif Ahmed, Director (Technical) at BIWTA, Dhaka, assumes the role of the committee’s convener, as announced in a letter signed by BIWTA Chairman AKM Matiur Rahman. The committee’s mandate includes investigating the accident’s cause, assessing financial damages, and providing recommendations. With a tight deadline, the committee is expected to submit its comprehensive report within the next five working days. The ferry involved, named “Rajanigandha,” sank around 8:30 am on Wednesday, carrying pick-up trucks and covered vans.
