A Dhaka court has issued arrest warrants for Mohammad Rassel, the former CEO, and chairman Shamima Nasrin of the e-commerce giant Evaly in connection with a cheque fraud case. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ali Haider issued the warrants on Monday after the accused failed to appear in court as summoned earlier. The case, filed by Tanvir Hossain, alleges that Evaly failed to deliver a motorcycle despite receiving payment of Tk2.45 lakh through mobile banking. Subsequently, a cheque provided by Evaly was dishonored after being deposited in multiple banks. Despite a legal notice, Evaly took no action, leading to the arrest warrants. Evaly now aims to refund stuck funds in the payment gateway in January, as announced by the CEO Mohammad Rassel during a recent online press conference. Rassel also pledged to clear legacy debts related to bank cheques starting from May.
