Huzit Ullah, a 34-year-old Rohingya individual from C/6 block, Number 19 camp in Palongkhali union of Cox’s Bazar, fell victim to a violent incident on Saturday afternoon. Reports suggest that a group of masked miscreants brutally stabbed and shot Ullah, allegedly due to a power struggle for dominance within the camp in Ukhiya upazila.
Ukhiya police station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md Shamim Hossain, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that the assailants, numbering between six to seven, abducted Ullah from a local tea stall where he was conversing with fellow camp residents around 4:40 pm. The attackers then mercilessly assaulted him with sharp weapons and executed a fatal gunshot to his head before fleeing the scene, leaving behind the lifeless body.
Upon receiving information, local law enforcement, along with the Armed Police Battalion (APBn), swiftly arrived at the crime scene and recovered Ullah’s body. While the motive behind this brutal act remains under investigation, authorities suspect that ongoing conflicts to establish dominance among various groups within the camp may have precipitated the deadly assault.
Officer Shamim Hossain further elaborated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators involved in this heinous crime. The incident underscores the escalating tensions and frequent clashes among rival factions vying for control over the camps in the region.
