In a significant conservation effort, a unique olive ridley sea turtle weighing approximately 40kg was saved from a canal within the reserve forest vicinity of Charpatalia in Bhola’s Manpura upazila.
The endangered turtle, discovered in the reserved forest area under Pocha Kodalia Bit of South Sakuchia Union, was spotted by vigilant fishermen while they were fishing in the nearby Meghna River. Promptly informed, the Forest Department’s Manpura Pachha Koralia beat officer, Abbas Ali, coordinated a rescue mission.
A specialized team from the Forest Department swiftly intervened, successfully extracting the stranded turtle from the reserved forest and relocating it to the Koralia Forest Division beat office for further evaluation.
Subsequently, in a bid to ensure its safety and well-being, the turtle was released back into its natural habitat, specifically within the Meghna River near the Dakhina Hawa beach area.
Highlighting the significance of the rescue, Rashedul Islam, the overseeing range officer of the Manpura Forest Department, emphasized that this marked the second olive ridley sea turtle rescue within an 18-day span in the Manpura region, underscoring the critical need for conservation efforts in the area.
