Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hassan Papon expressed his intention to conclude his current term before its scheduled expiration, anticipating his inauguration as the Minister of Youth and Sports at the Bangabhaban on Thursday.
Papon assumed the role of BCB president in 2012 and has continued to lead the organization since then. In October 2021, the 63-year-old was re-elected for a third consecutive term.
Addressing concerns about concurrently holding the positions of BCB president and minister, Papon clarified that it is not an unusual circumstance, citing instances of past ministers who also served as BCB presidents. He emphasized his desire to conclude his current term, which is set to end next year, and expressed his intention to accomplish this goal within the current year. Papon acknowledged the existence of ICC rules and regulations, including his involvement in several ICC committees, which may influence the timing of his departure from the BCB presidency.
