Arafat Mohsin Nidhi, a musician turned filmmaker from Bangladesh, has recently received the news that his short film “Everything Is Nothing” has been chosen to compete at the esteemed Cineplay International Film Festival in France. The film, made on a limited budget and featuring the director’s mother, Mahmuda Begum, in the lead role, will be screened on January 15 after being declared a finalist on January 5.
Expressing his excitement about the international recognition received by the film, Arafat Mohsin Nidhi mentioned that “Everything Is Nothing” primarily revolves around his mother’s character, with only two or three dialogues in the entire short film. He expressed his gratitude for being part of such a prestigious festival, considering it a significant achievement for an independent filmmaker like himself.
Arafat shared the spontaneous nature of the film’s creation, highlighting that it was made on a whim when he and his team found a break in their busy schedules. Describing the process, he explained that they wrote the story and screenplay, commenced shooting, and convinced his mother to portray the protagonist’s character. Being selected as a finalist in a prestigious festival holds special significance for Arafat Mohsin Nidhi.
