Since Sunday morning, voters have been expressing dissatisfaction with the malfunctioning of the EC app. On Sunday, EC Secretary Md Jahangir Alam revealed that a cyber attack had been executed on the Election Commission’s ‘Smart Election Management BD’ app, originating from Ukraine and Germany.
Alam informed the media that the EC had developed a mobile application designed to provide real-time voting information. However, users had reported issues with the app’s functionality since Sunday morning.
The app’s performance has been deliberately compromised in Ukraine and Germany due to a cyber attack. Despite its reduced speed, the app remains operational, with our team working tirelessly to address the issue, Alam confirmed. Additionally, the EC secretary clarified that the information circulating about the app’s development cost of Tk21 crore is inaccurate. The app is just one component of a six-year project valued at Tk21 crore, and only a fraction of that amount, approximately Tk8 crore, has been spent in the project’s initial year.
