Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General of the BNP, extended congratulations to voters for opting to boycott the national elections. Speaking at a virtual press conference, he asserted, “People have boycotted this staged election by the government,” accusing the government of employing state machinery to maintain power and suppressing opposition parties, including the BNP.
Rizvi expressed skepticism about the Awami League’s ability to conduct a fair election, alleging a history of vote rigging. He stated that voters responded to the BNP’s call for a boycott.
According to Rizvi, law enforcement agencies have arrested over 25,282 leaders and activists in 763 cases nationwide from October 28 until the present. The BNP also claimed that, in the 24 hours preceding the conference, 146 party leaders and activists were detained, and six cases were filed against 1,910 named and numerous unidentified party members.
