A cargo ship from Bangladesh is reported to have ignited in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, along the Muriganga River. The fire originated in the ship’s engine during repair work and quickly spread, as per local media. The vessel was moored at Haldia Channel.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in the incident. Locals mentioned that the ship’s crew initially attempted to control the fire but eventually had to seek assistance from coastal firefighters as the flames escalated.
Fire service officials indicate that they suspect an electric short-circuit as the possible cause of the fire. Some workers suggested that a gas cylinder explosion during the repair work might have triggered the blaze, considering there are gas cylinders on the ship’s lower deck.
All 11 crew members of the cargo vessel have been reported as unharmed
