Hasibul Hasan Ahmed, a final-year student majoring in Computer Science and Engineering at Brac University, has been awarded a $2000 grant from the National Geographic Society and The Nature Conservancy. The grant supports his research externship project, ‘Community and Conservation,’ focused on revitalizing the Banani Lake and addressing freshwater conservation in Dhaka. The initiative aims to empower young adults aged 18-25 globally with an eight-week virtual leadership program, fostering community-centric solutions for freshwater conservation. Hasibul’s project, Ecoflow Revive, targets the revitalization of Banani Lake and the integration of the Korail slum community. Collaboratively, he engaged with local stakeholders, mentored 12 Brac University students, and co-authored two research papers. Expressing gratitude, Hasibul highlighted the grant’s significance in amplifying their community development efforts. Beyond this achievement, Hasibul co-founded Brac University’s Social Impact Lab and is recognized as a Millennium Fellow of 2022 in the United Nations Academic Impact. With aspirations rooted in climate conservation and social entrepreneurship, he envisions integrating global and national strategies for future sustainability.
