Garment factory workers staged a protest on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Cumilla’s Belashor area, disrupting traffic flow due to unpaid salaries and arrears spanning three months. The blockade resulted in significant congestion, with numerous vehicles stranded on both sides of the crucial highway connecting Dhaka and the port city of Chattogram.
Around 9:30 am, the workers initiated the blockade, causing extensive tailbacks and inconveniencing commuters. The demonstration persisted until approximately 1:10 pm when factory authorities provided assurances to address the workers’ grievances. Confirming the resolution, Ahmed Sanjur Morshed, officer-in-charge of Chandina Police Station, informed local media sources.
Expressing the workers’ frustrations, Kakoli Akter highlighted the prolonged non-payment issue, stating, “We had no choice but to block the highway due to the factory management’s failure to disburse our salaries and pending dues for the past three months.”
