The Dhaka-Aricha highway faced disruptions as workers from Nayadingi Rising Spinning Mill in Saturia upazila, Manikganj, staged a protest demanding enhanced wages and allowances. The blockade, initiated around 8:30 am, halted transportation activities, inconveniencing commuters until approximately 11:30 am.
Expressing their grievances, the workers highlighted discrepancies in salary and allowance disbursements, alleging non-compliance with government policies by the spinning mill management. Despite multiple negotiation attempts, the workers claimed that their concerns remained unaddressed, prompting the demonstration for fair compensation.
Contrarily, a confidential source from the mill’s management refuted the claims, emphasizing that the spinning mills operate outside the newly established government salary structure for the garment sector. The source attributed the unrest to a misinterpretation by certain workers, suggesting that unwarranted agitation was fueling the protest.
In response to the situation, Sukhendu Basu, officer-in-charge of Gola Highway Police Station, confirmed deploying personnel to manage the protest site. Efforts persistently aimed at facilitating dialogue between the mill owner and workers to restore normalcy and vehicular movement along the highway.
