As New Year celebrations unfolded, Bangladesh’s national emergency hotline, 999, was flooded with 971 complaints highlighting excessive noise and disturbances across the nation from late Sunday into Monday.
Inspector Anwar Sattar, the spokesperson for the emergency service, revealed that a significant chunk, 237 complaints precisely, emanated from concerned residents within the Dhaka metropolitan area alone.
The influx of grievances escalated rapidly, with 526 calls registered by the stroke of midnight. Subsequently, an additional 445 complaints poured in from midnight extending into noon on Monday.
Taking decisive action in light of these concerns, law enforcement authorities swiftly mobilized to the reported venues, intervening to curb the amplified music emanating from blaring loudspeakers.
