Brac University students have carved a niche for themselves by securing several esteemed accolades at the Open Society University Network (OSUN) Film Festival. This digital event showcased 25 compelling student-crafted videos, serving as the culmination of the “Visual Storytelling for Student Engagement” course for the Fall 2023 semester.
The collaborative essence of this course spanned across seven global institutions, encompassing renowned universities like Bard College, European Humanities University, HUBS at Kakuma Refugee Camp, American University of Central Asia, School of International and Public Affairs, and UniAndes. Under the expert mentorship of Senior Lecturer Dina Hossain from Brac University, students demonstrated prowess in the specialized “CST 304, Documentary Film – Theory and Practice” course, recognized as a pivotal General Education Course.
Impressively, Brac University emerged as a frontrunner, clinching the highest tally of awards among its peers. Noteworthy mentions include:
- “Road Safety Movement 2018: Are We Safe Yet?” by Prodipta Hasin and team, lauded for its compelling script.
- “Food Waste in Bangladesh” crafted by Sakib Sadi and collaborators, celebrated for its profound environmental insights.
- “Fading Tides, Rising Hope: The Fight to Save Dhaka’s Dying Waterbodies” by Tahjid Ahsan and associates, recognized for its impactful civic engagement narrative.
The grandeur of the OSUN Film Festival unfolded on December 12, 2023, attracting a diverse audience of over 100 attendees. Esteemed personalities, including OSUN Vice-Chancellor Jonathan Becker, Brac University School of General Education Dean Samia Huq, OSUN Director of Communications Bonnie Goad, along with faculty luminaries and budding student filmmakers, graced the occasion, underscoring the festival’s significance in fostering cinematic excellence and storytelling prowess.
