Beginning this Sunday, the metro rail service will introduce stoppages at every station spanning from Uttara North to Motijheel, ensuring comprehensive connectivity for commuters.
Despite the culmination of the metro rail project, there will be no alterations to the current operational timetable.
MAN Siddique, the managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, unveiled this pivotal update from the company’s Eskaton headquarters on Thursday.
Spanning a total of 16 stations from Uttara North to Motijheel, the metro rail offers services from 7:30 am to 11:30 am covering the Uttara to Motijheel stretch. Concurrently, the Uttara to Agargaon segment operates between 7:30 am and 8:30 pm.
Diving into the details of the metro rail project, it’s worth noting that Bangladesh’s inaugural metro endeavor carries a price tag of Tk33,472 crore. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) extended a significant loan of Tk19,719 crore, with the Bangladesh government financing the residual sum. Originally pegged at Tk21,000 crore, the project’s budgetary footprint expanded due to the inclusion of an additional 1.6 km stretch from Motijheel to Kamalapur, land acquisition for individual stations, and the incorporation of enhanced amenities.
This monumental infrastructural initiative commenced its primary construction phase back in 2017.
