BNP’s vice chairmen, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury and Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, alongside former party leader Major (retd) Hanif, have received jail terms of one year and nine months each. This verdict comes from a case registered at Gulshan police station 12 years ago concerning vehicle vandalism and arson.
On Thursday, Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court delivered the judgment. Additionally, aside from the aforementioned leaders, five others, including MA Awal Khan, Rasel, Moinul Islam, Babul Hossain, and Alamgir Bishwas, were also handed three-year prison sentences.
The case originates from events on 4 June 2011 when individuals obstructed police during an unauthorized rally and engaged in vandalism and arson at Wireless Gate area, Mohakhali in the city.
