The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has apprehended two individuals in Dhaka believed to be involved in firing upon an election rally orchestrated by the Awami League candidate in Tangail’s Baghil area.
Identified as Faruk Hossain, aged 40, and Md Kamrul, aged 34, the duo’s arrest followed intensive operations in Uttara and Kafrul, as confirmed by RAB spokesperson, Commander Khandaker Al Moin. Highlighting Faruk’s central role in the event, Commander Moin stated that preliminary investigations revealed both suspects admitting their participation in the shooting incident.
This recent development comes after an alarming episode on Sunday when unidentified attackers targeted a procession led by Mamunur Rashid, the Awami League aspirant for the Tangail-5 seat. As a result of the gunfire, key figures including Baghil Jubo League’s General Secretary, Rokonuzzaman Rokon, along with activists Emdadul Haque and Siam sustained injuries.
In response to the incident, Rokon’s father, Fazlur Rahman, initiated legal proceedings, identifying six associates of incumbent MP Sanowar Hossain, an independent candidate for the same constituency. Additionally, the case encompasses 20-25 unidentified individuals, including Faruk, marking a significant stride in the ongoing investigation.
