In a positive development, Bangladesh marks a day free from dengue-related fatalities, keeping the total death count from the virus unchanged at 1,698 since the beginning of the year.
However, the nation recorded an uptick with 152 new hospitalizations due to dengue within a 24-hour span on Tuesday, elevating this year’s total cases to 320,701.
Breaking down the recent cases, 35 patients were admitted in Dhaka, while a significant 117 cases emerged from regions outside the capital. Presently, Bangladesh continues to monitor 983 dengue patients in hospitals, with 327 in Dhaka and 656 in various other regions.
This year’s dengue outbreak in Bangladesh has posed greater challenges compared to previous years. Experts attribute this surge to an extended monsoon season, escalating temperatures, and a perceived inadequacy in combating the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the primary vector responsible for transmitting the dengue virus.
