The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike paints a bleak picture for residents of Gaza’s Maghazi refugee camp, as they return to find their homes reduced to rubble.
Abu Rami Abu al-Ais, amidst the debris on Monday, lamented, “Our homes have been decimated by bombings. The entire Gaza Strip feels unsafe.” The devastation intensified late Sunday when Israeli airstrikes targeted at least three residential structures, leading to a tragic death toll exceeding 100, as reported by Al Jazeera.
Gaza authorities confirmed that among the deceased were members of seven families. While Israel maintains its stance of issuing warnings before such strikes to safeguard civilians, Zeyad Awad’s account contradicts this narrative. “As civilians seeking only peace and security, we were caught off-guard by the sudden Israeli airstrikes,” Awad remarked.
In response to the dire situation, the Israeli military has initiated a review of the incident. Established in 1949 by the United Nations, the Maghazi refugee camp aimed to provide refuge to Palestinians displaced during Israel’s formation the preceding year. Sadly, many residents, having previously fled violence in northern Gaza, now find themselves displaced once more due to this recent tragedy.
