Three buses were set ablaze in various parts of Dhaka, including Gulistan, Mirpur, and Kalabagan, as tensions escalated on the eve of a nationwide blockade called by the BNP and allied opposition parties.
Anwarul Islam, the warehouse inspector at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters (media cell), reported that the first incident involved a Rajanigandha Paribahan bus set on fire at 9:15 pm. Swift action from two firefighting units from Siddique Bazar fire station managed to control the flames by 9:27 pm.
Shortly after at approximately 10:30 pm, another bus from Trust Paribahan was targeted near Bangladesh Krishi Bank in Mirpur’s section 13. Firefighters from Mirpur station responded promptly, extinguishing the fire by 10:52 pm.
Meanwhile, in the Kalabagan bus stand area around 10:52 pm, miscreants ignited a bus belonging to Mirpur Metro Service. Teams from Mohammadpur fire station arrived swiftly, managing to put out the fire by 11:13 pm.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in these incidents, confirmed the fire officer on duty.
